Our Story

Founded by Dr. Sharon Brown, Malku Institute was birthed from a passion to see African communities flourish through practical training and entrepreneurial empowerment. From its beginnings as a U.S. initiative, the Institute has grown into a recognized educational institution with campuses in Ghana and Uganda, and impact projects across multiple African nations.

Introducing our Global Partners

In 2006, SONSHINE GLOBAL PARTNERS was founded on the basis of agricultural development and medical outreach for foreign communities who were affected by the AIDS Epidemic.

Empowering African communities through education and sustainable agriculture. SONSHINE GLOBAL PARTNERS is a U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit that raises funds to support rural development in Ghana and Uganda through its partnership with the Malku Institute of Technology

SONSHINE GLOBAL PARTNERS has been “impacting Africa through the Malku Institute of Technology” by funding classroom programs, demonstration farms, and community outreach projects.

Our DNA

We engage in all aspects of farming from land development, practices of successful entrepreneurship, finding local and global buyers, establishing affordable means of distribution and much more.

Uganda Campus

Malku is now developing the 100-acre site we acquired in Kijuya, Mubende, Uganda. We are establishing a Farming Center of Excellence and a campus for the institute.

Ghana Campus

Malku Institute of Technology Ghana Campus is registered as a Ghanaian Educational Corporation. We are registered with the Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training .

Construction in Uganda

The facility comprises a Training Room Block with space for 72 trainees, an adjoining Administration Office, and accessible restrooms, all designed for light, functionality, and inclusivity. A flexible Dining and Kitchen Area seats 120 and includes semi-enclosed verandahs, a spacious kitchen, and storage. Staff are housed in 8 self-contained units positioned for easy trainee supervision. Both Boys’ and Girls’ Residences accommodate 30 trainees each, with well-organized sleeping quarters, storage, outdoor laundry areas, and full sanitation facilities. The overall design emphasizes accessibility, natural lighting, and efficient space use.

HEEP: Household Economic Empowerment Program

HEEP is a faith-based initiative of Malku Institute in partnership with Sonshine Global Partners committed to the holistic transformation of under-resourced communities. Grounded in Christian values, HEEP delivers programs that empower people spiritually, economically, and socially. From education and leadership training to business incubation and wellness, HEEP integrates key life areas to bring sustainable change.

Meet Our Founder

Dr. Sharon Brown, Founder of Malku Institute

Dr. Sharon Brown is a visionary attorney and entrepreneur. She founded Son Shine Global Partners and Malku Institute of Technology to empower young people in African rural communities through education and sustainable agriculture.

With degrees from the University of Miami and St. Thomas University School of Law, Dr. Brown brings a unique blend of expertise to her humanitarian work.

She is a dedicated leader in promoting education and economic development in Africa.
